Looking back...moving forward
The Richmond Youth Jazz Guild works in partnership with the Jazz
Composers Alliance, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization. Through
this partnership, students are mentored by professional jazz musicians.
Master classes are given on specific instrumentation, technique, music
study, history and the music business.
This tradition of passing the torch is crucial for America's music to flourish
into the next century. Collectively we are cultivating the next generation of jazz
musicians and growing a new audience for Jazz.

Berklee Bound Scholarships
The Richmond Youth Jazz Guild, Jazz Composers Alliance, Inc. and the
Rhythm Section Foundation work in partnership to raise necessary funds
to pay for the room and board costs for young musicians of the Richmond
Youth Jazz Guild that have earned a spot at the coveted Berklee College of
Music 5-Week Summer Performance Camp in Boston. This national
partnership initiative with Berklee provides underserved youth a music
education and life changing opportunities.
The average cost for room and board per student is $3,250. Join us in
supporting Jazz and music education. Make a donation, become a Jazz
Mentor, and come out to the First Annual Jazz on the Hill Music
Festival (September 12, 2010) Brown's Island.
This inter-generational project keeps the tradition of apprenticeship alive in jazz while instilling in youth the structure and discipline necessary to excel personally and academically through music education.
